​Turning Personal Loss into Superhero Inspiration 

 

Jim Churchman is a Hollywood Stunt Coordinator, specializing in flying effects for major motion picture films. He has a huge passion for bringing joy and empowerment to children with special needs through his non-profit organization, The Flying Hero Club.

 

Churchman's journey to becoming a "superhero maker" is deeply rooted in personal experiences with cancer. He lost his grandfather to the disease at a young age, and his mother passed away from leukemia when he was 23. These losses, coupled with witnessing his stepmother's battle with cancer and the struggles of friends in the stunt community, ignited a desire within him to bring happiness to others facing similar challenges. Cancer is scary.

 

The idea for the Flying Hero Club came to him during a film shoot in Montreal. After using his stunt equipment to fly some crew members for fun, he noticed a mother crying tears of joy while her children laughed.  He learned that the daughter was a two-time cancer survivor and that this simple act of flying brought a smile to her face for the first time in a year. This "lightbulb moment" inspired Churchman to establish an organization dedicated to making children with special needs feel like true superheroes!

 

Through the Flying Hero Club, Churchman has transformed his personal experiences with loss and adversity into a force for good, bringing smiles, hope, and lasting memories to countless children and families. 

 

He is driven by a deep-seated belief that every child, especially those facing difficult challenges, deserves to feel like a superhero!
